Even though summer is inching its way to us, Tom Yum soup is still a favorite appetizer among many of our guests. With its hot and sour flavors, we serve this soup with either chicken or shrimp.
Tom Yum, originated from central Thailand and Laos, had been more popularized more in Thai cuisine, using fragrant spices and herbs in the broth, and topping the dish with fresh mushrooms. We simmer our stock with fresh ingredients such as lemongrass, galanga, and Thai chili peppers. A close cousin of this dish is Tom Kha, in which is essentially the same soup, but coconut milk is added when simmering. Either way, its intense flavors could be a great meal starter.
